Nailart for funn!

A blog about nailart, creativity and life in general! :)

My Wedding Album

Hey fellow bloggers,

I decided to share my wedding album with you. It’s only fair since I have been posting various things about my wedding for months now! Also, I know I love seeing other people’s pics, so I hope you enjoy mine. Here’s the link to the slideshow!

My photographer is a guy called Darren Kirwan. He is sha-mazing!!! He was like a ninja with the camera! Most of the time I really forgot he was there.

Some nail art posts are coming soon, October has been a busy month at work. They don’t allow nail polish either, so that sucks!

Let me know what you think of the album!

Wedding Pictures!

Walking down the aisle July 30th 2013

Here are some pictures of my wedding day. There will be more in a few weeks when I get the whole album from my photographer. This is just a small selection. We got married on July 30th in Adare Co. Limerick. It’s a beautiful little village and it was the perfect place for us to tie the knot! The first picture is us walking down the aisle. I was so nervous throughout the ceremony, but in this pic I’m starting to relax and enjoy myself!

The photographer took us to some train tracks to get some cool shots.

My very talented friend made my bouquet out of brooches and buttons, she also made the buttonholes for the guys.

We had an amazing sunny day for our wedding, that’s pretty lucky in Ireland where it always rains! 🙂

This was our first dance, Snow Patrol’s Chasing Cars,

I’m smiling just thinking about this day. I’ll post more pics when I get them, Hope you enjoy! xxx

Care Package from the States

care box from greg

Those of you who read my posts know that I bought some Glossy Boxes recently and they were a real let down. So, I asked Greg (my fiance) to send me a care package. And this is what I got. Of course there is some nail polish in there! I love the Yellow cover girl polish, I already posted about it.

Greg’s gotten into brewing his own beer and he managed to send me a bottle! My parents and I tasted it and it was great! Really refreshing, light and it had  honey notes to it.

The Old Bay seasoning was a total surprise, we used to season our eggs with it when we lived in Seoul. At first I didn’t like it, then I grew to love it. Gotta introduce my family to it.

The coffee cup was something that I asked for because the coffee at work is terrible and I wanted to bring my own in. So that was really great to get. I also asked for a key ring. In Seoul I had no keys, no car, we had a keypad to get into our apartment, so I really needed a cute key ring. It opens up and you can put a little picture inside!

The title of the book Greg sent me is ‘I could Pee on This’. How could I not enjoy that!!! It’s a really great book of cat poems written from cat’s perspectives. I laugh my ass off every time I read one of those poems! I recommend it to all cat people. 🙂

I also got two pics. One of Mika and one of Pickle. I immediately went out and framed them. I miss my two widdle fur balls so much!!!

This package really brightened up my day, and I am enjoying using everything that came in it.

Wedding Outfit

Recently I was invited to a wedding. I was especially touched by the invite as I hadn’t had much contact with the bride in the past few years, due, mostly, to living in Korea. So, it was great to go and see old friends and neighbors. I didn’t have a date for the church part so my mam came with me.

She took this pic of me in the church car park before the wedding.

Dress and cardigan are from Dress Barn. Shoes from Greene’s. Bag from Accessorize. The best thing about this outfit is how comfortable it is. 🙂 It’s rare to get me in heels but I kinda enjoyed them!

My second Glossy Box

In my second Glossy Box I got: A Collegen and Aloe Vera Facemask, Sun Sense Daily Face SPF 50, Yves Rocher Nutritive Vegetal, Nip + Fab Mango Smoothie and Richard War Couture Hair. The mask is useful, I like face masks so it will be used. The daily face stuff and the body cream I kindly donated to my mom, who has a steadily growing collection of samples now! I haven’t used the hair style ‘reviver’ . I’m not sure if I will because I hardly ever use hair spray and when I do I’ve found Elnett by L’oreal to be excellent. It’s not sticky and it doesn’t smell bad. I don’t love everything that I got in this box but I do like that the samples are a little larger this time.

I can honestly say the best thing about this Glossy Box was the box itself!! I’m gonna use it to put my mom’s gifts in as it’s her b-day in June!

Glossy Box (my first)

Ok, I’m really going to try and be fair with this review. I decided to subscribe to Glossy Box. For those of you who don’t know what it is, you basically pay them to send you a box a month with 5 samples in it. Sometimes they are mini samples, and sometimes they are full ones. There is a list of all the possible brands it could be on their website. The point is to try new products, and also to gift yourself (that was my point). You take a brief questionnaire, and tell them things like your skin tone, hair colour etc.

WARNING: If you sign up for this it will keep sending you boxes every month and charge you for them until you actually cancel with them. So, be warned!

I was initially not going to even write a review on my first box. My second box arrived this week and I was just going to write about that. Trouble is, writing about box 2 and not 1 would just annoy me! I’m not OCD or anything, but. . .

Ok! Here’s the box!

and inside

L’Occitane Hand Cream, Jelly Pong Pong Lipstick,  Renu Face Mask, Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, and Pearly’s Tooth Powder (?) .

L’Occitane is a great hand cream and a lovely brand. I already have lots of hand cream so I passed this off to my mam.

The Jelly Pong Pong was nice because it was full sized. Everything else looked so small. However, I didn’t like the color ,so I gave it to my mam.

Renu mask for mature skin, EXCUSE ME? I’m not that old!! Gave that to my mam, got a dirty look, but she still took it!!  (poor mam)

I used to always carry Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream and I swear by it. For EVERYTHING!!! So I was happy to see this little sample.

Pearly’s teeth whitener, um hello? What’s with the ‘mature skin’ and ‘teeth powder’? Gave to you know who.

The box comes with this information leaflet about each of the product and shows what they cost (full size).

So, even reading this I am thinking the main problem with Glossy Box is that either their questionnaire isn’t detailed enough, or they don’t use that information very well. I still like the idea of a ‘gift’ coming every month. But there are so many other companies who do this, hmmm I have signed up for three at the end I’ll decide if it’s worth continuing.

My Trip to DC!!

Hey! I’m back! I feel terrible for not updating my blog when I was in DC but I wanted to squeeze as much out of my time there with Greg as possible. Painting my nails didn’t seem like a good use of my time! (extraordinary circumstances!!)

I had such a blast there. I can’t wait to move over after the wedding. I love our apt building and the scenic views from our windows. Love that I’m within walking distance of the metro.

We saw this beauty my first evening there, right behind our building! I couldn’t believe it!

My little dog Pickle was so happy to see me she peed herself (that’s love)

We explored DC while I was there and also revisited some tourist sites. We took a Segway tour of DC and that was so much fun! For $70 dollars each we took a 2hour tour and saw Lincoln Memorial, the Mall, the White House, Congress, Jefferson Memorial, Treasury Building, Ford Theatre, and so much more. We covered a lot of ground, the weather was perfect and we learned a lot about DC! I really recommend this tour for everybody.

Segways are fun!!!

We met up with Greg’s friends for drinks/dinners.

We went to the naval academy in Annapolis and a boat club to meet some of Greg’s relatives.

We caught a baseball game. The Nationals were playing the Atlanta Braves. It was my first baseball game in the US!

We also went to Ben’s Chili Bowl and got chili dawgs and chili fries! Nom!

The excitement was too much! I slept on the metro home and Greg posted this on facebook!!

I’m home now in Ireland and you will be seeing more posts this week!!!

Wedding Hair First Salon Visit

Today was my first salon appointment. I went in last week and spoke to the head colourist and explained what I wanted for my wedding. She was great! Today I got low and high lights, a hair cut and hair styling. I really love how it turned out.

I was originally going to pull pieces back from my face but I think that would take away from the effect. I might put a decorative pin on the left side above my ear, I’m not sure yet. I have two or three more visits between now and the wedding so I can play around with it some more. I’m really happy with the colour though!

After my hair appointment I wandered around the farmer’s market in my city, bought delicious chocolate for me, Greg, and my chocolate addicted brother. Then, had a great pub lunch with my mam. Love days like this!

Barry M’s Greenberry

This is Barry M’s Greenberry. I bought it because I love these kinds of colors, they remind me summer is coming and they are bright and cheerful. This was no exception. I thought it might have been a bit dark when I applied it but I shouldn’t have worried! The color POPS off my nails, fabulous! (if I do say so myself) The polish was a bit streaky and I ran into the usual problem with streaky polishes, I put on too many thick layers and then it dents before it dries, anyone else do that?

Since I knew I was gonna swatch them I HAD to do something with this polish! So I used OPI’s The Man With The Golden Gun. I think this is my most expensive polish!! And I’ve only used it twice, my mam loves it, she’s amazed that it has 18 carat gold in it. Hmm, maybe she likes it a little TOO much, better keep it away from her! Anyway, I think it looks pretty smart with that top coat.

Finished day two of my job at the hospital! Tomorrow I only have a short day, it’s been great so far, staff are so lovely and the patients are fun and in good spirits! It’s really hard physical work but it’s rewarding and the time flies and I feel really useful which is great!! No hanging around the house for me!! I do miss not wearing nail polish though! It’s prob a good break for my nails.

Ireland and Korean Royalty

I arrived home Monday night from Seoul via Heathrow. Despite being exhausted I still stayed up for hours chatting to my parents. They are the BEST help a future bride could ask for!

Mom has been cooking all my fav dishes including Irish breakfast and her yum Chicken casserole (secret recipe)

Now that I’m home I have a little setting up to do. I’m gonna head to the shopping centre tomorrow with mom and pick up some things I need, essentials such as a GHD, desk for my room, boots (they are on sale!) and some other things to make my room more me.

Of course the downside of being home is that I’m apart from Greg, Mika and Pickle. I’m trying really hard to focus on my goals and not wallow about too much about being apart from my little family. It’s temporary, and I should use the time on things that will improve me so when I do see Greg again I can impress him! 🙂

One more downside, it’s 5.30am I’ve been awake for an hour now! So naturally I’m typing this with a facemask on and I may go paint my toenails in a little bit!

Sunday was my last day in Seoul. Greg and I decided to go to a photo studio and dress up as Korean Kings and Queens and wear Hanbok. That’s the traditional Korean  clothing. Isn’t it beautiful? Of course I asked for purple!

I’m trying to think like a queen!

Doesn’t he look handsome?

Together, having fun.  🙂 It’s easy with your best friend.

My Little Pickle

Hey everyone, this is a post about my little Pickle. She is my dog. She’s half schnauzer  half  poodle and really excitable! Pickle always barks at men, she really doesn’t like them. So when we have guy friends over it takes her a while to calm down. She prefers women and will let them pet her more easily. Pickle completely 100% adores me. At home, she is my shadow! She even stands guard outside the bathroom door.

I met Pickle on one of my first dates with Greg. He offered to cook me dinner and when I came over Pickle was there to greet me. She hesitated for a few seconds but then jumped on my lap and we have never looked back since!

On Sunday mornings as a special treat we give her a mashed up boiled egg with a little bacon dog treat broken up in it for her, she LOVES it!

She can get very jealous of Mika at times and always wants to be near me.

As I’m writing this she is curled up at the bottom of the bed watching me through sleepy eyes!

Here are some pics of her!

At the dog park, she is not afraid to play with the big dogs!

AH grooming is not her fav thing to do!

Valentine’s Day Gifts

Hey! I’m finally starting to feel a little better so I want to post about my Valentine’s Day. It was also my last day as an English teacher here in Seoul, South Korea. So I got to spoil my students with heart shaped candies and fun games all day long. Saying goodbye to them was happy and sad! They are sweet kids and I hope some of them stay in contact.

After work I went to dinner with Greg. We went on base here and ate at a French style restaurant that does excellent steak. Dinner was delicious and we both had a lovely evening. I got yummy chocolates and Lush products as my gift. The facial cleanser is really cool it looks like mud until you add a little water. I have yet to try the huge bath bomb!

Overall, a great Valentines. Only a couple of weeks left here and with Greg (for a while) so trying to soak it all up!! I hope everyone had a great Valentines! Now I’m off to eat some chocolate!

Vday 2013

My Mika! :)

Hey peeps!

Hope everyone’s havin’ a great weekend. This is gonna be a non-nail art post. Still getting used to doing these kinds of posts. They make me feel like I am really expressing myself but it’s WEIRD!! 🙂

Mika, right when I first got him! April 2009 🙂 Such a cute liddle face! 🙂

Mika decided the non-moving stuffed toy was a clear threat and obviously needed to be put in it’s place! I’m so glad I got to take this photo. IMG_1567

So this post is about my pets. I have a cat called Mika. He’s my little baby boy. Anyone who knows me will tell you I would do ANYTHING for that cat. I came to Korea in 2009, feb and I adopted Mika in April when he was only 6 weeks old! The little guy was born on the 5th of March, that’s the same day that I started teaching in Korea. So, Mika’s been a cat as long as I’ve been teaching here. Over the past four years we’ve been through EVERYTHING together. I always know that at the end of everyday Mika will meet me at the door and be there to be petted.

Personality: My cat is certified as crazy by the vet. He’s strong, not soft and fluffy. He’s a badass and he knows it, no apologies. He’s not shy. He like to wake me up in the middle of the night by walking on me and then gently headbutting me. When I wake up he expects head rubs and lovin’.

Weird Feats: When he was a kitten he was crazy and would scratch and bite me sometimes and go kind of feral. I used to put him in the bathroom to calm down. He learned to sit on the toilet, jump and grap the door handle and swing out. He could get out of the bathroom! The first time he did that I nearly died with fright!

Vets: His SWORN enemy! He has bent needles, (no exaggeration!) given one vet stitches. I felt really bad about that. He had to be micro chipped and he was really against that. He attacked the vet and she had to put him in a wire mesh clamp (that they use for dogs) then she could finally get him chipped.

Cute Fact: When he was a kitten he would warble when he ate. I would hear him and it sounded like he was singing! So freaking cute!

Plan for Mika’s future: Mika will go with Greg to the states in a month. I will go home to Ireland. If I took Mika with me he would have to spend 6 months in quarantine because Korea is considered a high risk zone for rabies. I never want to put him through that. So, although I will miss him every single day it’s better for him to go with Greg. Mika really loves Greg, we call him the ball warmer!

I have another pet called Pickle, but that’s for another time.

I’m now a .com!

Happy Friday everyone! (well it’s Friday here in Korea anyway). I just wanted to share my news,  I bought the domain name for nailartforfunn. It’s    now a .com 🙂 I thought about this for a while and I really want to continue improving my blog and I feel like this is one of the first steps towards that. 🙂

I have a few other ideas in mind that I want to put into place in the future. I’ve been so happy with my blog ever since I started it. It really has been a great outlet for me and a way to be creative at my own pace.

Soon I will be moving home for the first time in years. It’s gonna be very busy with lots of changes  and it’s nice to know that my blog will be there when I need to express myself! Which might be a lot considering I have a  wedding to plan and a new fitness routine to master.

I can’t thank other bloggers enough for their help/comments/advise/humor ! I haven’t had one bad experience since starting nailartforfunn! In fact I have made some friends and learned A LOT and not just about nail art. I’ve tried new recipes, new make-up, I’ve learned how to apply make-up a lot more professionally! I’ve learned how to use wordpress more effectively (I’m not that great with computers so I’m pretty proud of that!) I love checking my reader and discovering new products, and styles. 🙂

Take care everyone, have a great weekend! Maybe even have a gigantic margarita or two! Nom!

Nicola 🙂

My Life So Far

I have decided to broaden my blog just a little. Some of my posts from now on will be about me and what I’m doing. Nail art is still the main focus but because so many things are happening I think it’ll be good for me to have a place to express myself. So that’s why I’m starting this new page.

Ok, here’s the deal. I’m getting married in Aug. I’m moving from Seoul, South Korea back home to Ireland in March. From March ’til Aug I will be preparing for my wedding, living with my parents and reconnecting with my friends.

Oh! You don’t even know what I look like! I’ve never posted a picture of myself on my blog before!

46364_10151246373007799_2042738986_nThat’s me and Greg, my wonderful fiance!

That’s it for now. I’ll update soon!
