Spoiled – I Gotta Confection To Make

1

This is one of the polishes Greg sent me in a care package recently. It’s made by Wet n Wild.

Here’s the collection.

And if you don’t feel like clicking on a link here’s a pic! I like Uh, As If!

Spoiled Collection

The polish is loaded with very fine  glitter and has hints of green, blue, and gold. It dries super fast. I’m always curious when I get these types of polishes. I want to know how many coats it takes to make it opaque. That first picture is one coat.

This is two coats. (above and below)

You can still clearly see my nail under two coats. Ok, here’s 3!

I stopped after three coats! Really, the extra coats didn’t make much of a diff to the depth of color. But it did nicely build up the glitter!

Now I’m wishing I had put on Modi Peel Off Base Coat under it!

Which topcoat is best?

2

I was shopping yesterday and while in Aritaum I saw this beautiful nail polish. I’m no stranger to Modi polishes. I’ve blogged/reviewed them before here and here and here. But I’ve never owned this shade before and I fell in love! It’s not as dark as I thought it would be but it looks great on. I was really excited to try it out. It took three light coats to get it perfect. Sometimes the polish kind of separates on the nail. It’s like it’s reacting to the base coat or something. But it’s really easily fixed, just like streaky polish.

When I had it on I couldn’t decide how to glam it up a little. So I picked my four fav options. Modi Matt TopCoat, Modi Golden Glitter, Modi Black and White TopCoat and Revlon regular TopCoat.

I have a favorite but I really want to know which one YOU (my beloved reader)  think is best! Plz let me know. 🙂

I Know You Know Collection From The Lady Varnishes Part Two and Preview of the Because You Listen Collection

This is part two of my review of The Lady Varnishes polishes, part one is here. These polishes, from left to right, are called: I Know You Know, To The Blueberry, You Know That’s Right, You Heard About Pluto?, Dazzle And Stretch, and Girl Needs A Doughnut.1

You Heard About Pluto?

11

This is a black jelly base with holographic glitter and silver shreds. It’s a very thick polish. It’s really easy to apply and  very dense. It crossed my mind while applying this polish that it would look great for a fancy night out/date night. It’s not smooth, I think it’s kinda edgy, it would really compliment a black sequined party dress. I didn’t try to smooth it out or put top coat on it, I was really enjoying how different it was. This one is quirky and it definitely exceeded my expectations.

Dazzle and Stretch

17

Dazzle  and Stretch is a glitter filled (hexes, bars, and shreds) topcoat that can also be worn on its own. It is only available with the purchase of the entire collection. It is really bright and clean. I loved how simple it was and especially loved the colour. Perfect to glam up any tired looking colours!

Girl Needs A Doughnut

14

Girl Needs a Doughnut is from the soon-to-be-released Because You Listen Collection. So this is a preview! Yay, I love having insights into new collections! This glittery polish has both fine and larger round pieces of glitter. It’s the round pieces of glitter that make this polish special for me. Just like the other polishes in from The Lady Varnishes this one is quick drying.

I Know You Know Collection From The Lady Varnishes: Part One

I was very happy when the post came today. I received a package from the lovely Elissa and Kirsten of The Lady Varnishes. It contained six beautifully packaged sample sized bottles from their I Know You Know Collection, and a preview of their Because You Listen Collection, plus a bonus bottle of polish that comes when you order the whole collection.

These polishes, from left to right, are called: I Know You Know, To The Blueberry, You Know That’s Right, You Heard About Pluto?, Dazzle And Stretch, and Girl Needs A Doughnut.

I have to say my first impression of this range of polish is very positive. I love how each bottle has a little charm on it, and the charm has a colored jewel which matches the shade of nail polish. It’s detail and personal touches like that which really make me feel that this collection is special. These bottles would make great little gifts for nail polish lovers and girly girls. All the polishes are 3-Free and cruelty free.

The Lady Varnishes is owned by two sisters Elissa and Kirsten. They are very approachable and friendly. I am always impressed when people find a way to do what they love and these two definitely have a huge passion for polish. 🙂 They’ve gone from experimenting with polish in their spare time to opening an Etsy store and starting collections!

I Know You Know

This polish took two coats and a little extra dabbing to cover less glittery areas. It’s a matte green glittery polish, with very fine green glitter, and larger white shreds. To apply, the polish is quite thick. This was great because it was easier to deal with than really watery streaky polish. I found it quite easy to evenly apply. There is a very healthy amount of glitter in each brush stroke. A bonus with all these polishes is the drying time, it’s super fast! This polish, although loaded with glittery goodness, wasn’t too coarse when it dried. I liked it because it reminded me of spring and freshly cut grass. 9 10

To The Blueberry

5

Ok, to be honest I was a little nervous when applying this polish. I’ve had bad luck with blue nail polish staining my nails. Thankfully, this polish did not do that. It came off really easily with no staining. The best thing about this polish is the colour, it really pops! I don’t think it’s possible to capture how eye-catching it is in real life but I hope my camera came close. This polish required three coats to cover bald patches. The polish is a shimmery blue with black and super fine silver glitter. It just sparkles across the nail. Yum.

You Know That’s Right

I don’t usually go for lighter nail polishes, I seem to gravitate more to bolder colours. That may be about to change. Purple is my favourite colour anyway so this wasn’t really a hard sell! This is a very ladylike shimmery violet with purple, silver, and green glitter mixed in, that’s a great combo! This is a very cute polish that I think will appeal to most people.

Chevron Nails

This is my first Chevron manicure and I am really happy with how it turned out. The red is OPI’s Color So Hot It Berns and the gold is from the Face Shop it has no name.

I wore this manicure to a Thanksgiving party that my friends threw. Thanksgiving is a relatively new holiday to me, but I love it. Friends, good food,  playing 20 questions, what’s not to love?! 🙂  PLUS I got lots of compliments on how festive this mani looked. (always makes me feel good when my nail art gets complimented!!!)

I will definitely be trying another version of this look soon!

Gold Glitter Gradient

1

Yay for EASY nail art!Because let’s face it there are some evenings when I don’t want a manicure to take over an hour 🙂 I already posted about this great gradient kit from Etude house, that post covered the silver kit. Since Christmas seems to be the season for glitter polishes I thought a glitter gradient would give a simple manicure a nice twist and still be really fast to do. (are you getting I’m really pressed for time these days?! lol!)

What do you do when you want a pretty manicure but don’t have the time? Lemme know! I want your ideas haha!!

Modi Glam Nails Swatches and Reviews

This is my second about this range of glitter polishes. The Modi range was so fun I had to go buy more and show you! My previous post covered a red, black and white,  multicoloured glitter. You can read it here.

This time I bought a creamy glitter with multicoloured pieces. This polish has square, circle, and hexagon shaped glitter throughout. The thing I love about these polishes is that they don’t hold back on the glitter. I don’t normally like creamy polishes but I did enjoy wearing this one. It’s cheerful and peppy.  This was two coats. I think you can see little bubbles underneath the polish because I used a peel off base coat. It was worth that not to deal with removing the polish the standard way!

I paired this glitter with OPI’s Fly from the Nicki Minaj range. I think they compliment each other quite well. As with all glitter polishes from this range they are so packed with glitter you have to be careful that too much doesn’t come out.

Revlon Popular and Sparkle Aplenty

These are some swatches of Revlon’s glitter polishes. Popular is a pale pink creamy glitter. It contains tiny silver glitter pieces and larger hexagon shaped pieces. I applied this with no undercoat, (no undies) and it only took two coats to pull off this manicure. I wore it for days, it didn’t chip. It also dried very quickly. I love the quality of Revlon’s products! This manicure was very work appropriate. I normally don’t like pale colours but I did enjoy wearing this polish and I will wear it again. I think this polish is classy and elegant.

This is Revlon’s Sparkle Aplenty. I should love it but I don’t. For this manicure I used  Sally Hansen’s Black Out as a base coat. It took two coats and then I just dabbed on the glitter pieces around the nail. Just like Popular, Sparkle Aplenty has silver glitter and silver hexagons throughout. I didn’t like it because the polish is a weak black, without a base coat it would look terrible. Also, I didn’t like that the polish dulled the look of the glitter. Maybe I would wear this polish for a night out, maybe. But I don’t think it looks good for day to day ordinary, no occasion wear. Know what I mean?

With Popular I found myself staring at my nails and admiring them. With Sparkle Aplenty I just wanted to grab the nail polish remover and take it off. It’s funny how two pretty similar polishes from the same range bring out such different reactions in me. If you have these polishes let me know how you found them.

Modi Glam Nails Swatches and Reviews 1

Last week while shopping in Gangnam, Seoul I came across these beautiful glittery polishes in a store called Aritaum. These are Aritaum’s Modi Glam Nails. They were so eye-catching I had to buy them. I’m just sorry I only bought three! They were 3,500 Korean Won each. That’s roughly $3 USD. Bargain! 🙂

The thing that surprised me the most about these polishes is that one coat was enough! They are JAM PACKED with glitter and bits and pieces. If you scroll down and check out my macro shots of each bottle you can clearly see this. So each manicure was simple and took the minimum amount of time! That’s a win for me.

The pink base coat is OPI’s Strawberry Margarita.

Look at all that inside!!

I think this manicure would be really great for a Christmas party. Some of the pieces of  glitter were quite large. The red base coat is OPI’s Color So Hot It Berns.

Mmm full of glittery goodness.

Here’s my last swatch. This glitter would go with any colour but I love how it looks with light and dark purple. That dark purple is OPI’s Louvre Me Louvre Me Not.

Can you see how jam-packed each one is with glitter? I may just have to go back and get some more this weekend!

Breast Cancer Awareness Manicure

October is breast cancer awareness month. I didn’t want to let the month end without creating a manicure inspired by this theme. I’m no expert on this topic so I’m not going to pretend I am. Here’s a link if you’re interested in what it’s all about. http://www.nbcam.org/

Here’s what I used for this manicure.

I had so much fun giving each nail a different look! I really love this manicure! My favorite nail is the red middle finger, so bling! 🙂

Which one is your favorite?

Revlon Radiant Blue Mosaic (Glitter Nail Enamel)

No nail art today. Just a simple swatch of this beautiful nail polish. All I did was apply a base coat under it. I did that with this glittery nail polish because it’s a blue-tinted clear base and a strong base coat under it draws more attention to the actual glitter. (in my opinion!)

Here are the polishes I used.

This polish is great simply because it really pops. I’m not a huge fan of blue polish but even I was impressed with this one. I couldn’t figure out what made it different until I looked closely. This polish is loaded with  fine light blue glitter throughout it. It also has larger white, light blue and green hexagon shaped glitter pieces in it. It’s the green pieces that I think really make it pop. I only needed two coats of this polish and it doesn’t chip easily. Plus, even though it’s loaded with glitter it doesn’t feel grainy on my nails. Topcoat is still advised for a shiny look though.

What do you think of it?

Gradation Nails 101

I have always found gradation nails hard to do. It sounds easy. You basically paint your nails one color then sponge another color halfway over your nail making it look like it blends in. Simple. Except whenever I try it I end up using too much polish and my nails look pockmarked from all the sponging. Not good. So I gave up on gradation nails. Until I found this beauty.

Literally gradation nails for dummys. 🙂 Yay! Here’s what’s inside. On the top of each cap they literally numbered the bottles in the order you should use them!! It’s foolproof (unless you can’t count).

Apart from this kit all you need is . . .

Apply the first polish over the whole nail, let it dry. Apply the second polish over the last third of the nail with the sponge. I painted the polish directly on the sponge so I wouldn’t waste it. Apply the third polish on the very tip of the nail with the sponge.

Here’s the result. What do you think of my gradation nails for beginners???

Love Story

Once upon there was a polish called Strawberry Margarita. She came from the land of OPI. While she knew she was fabulous sometimes she felt she was missing something. She needed a bounce in her pretty little step.

One day she found what was missing. She fell in love at first swatch.  He gave her a sparkle so  perfect it brought out the best in both of them. They lived happily ever after, perfectly complimenting each other.

So, my favourite polish at the moment. OPI’s Strawberry Margarita. I love it so much I bought a marked up bottle of it from a Korean store. It’s great on its own or, as in this case, as a base coat.

Sally Hansen diamond strength polish really surprised me. On its own it’s a bit flat but on top of the OPI it shimmers, sparkles, glitters. . .  you get where I’m going??!

The result is a BEAUTIFUL manicure that is really girly and pretty! (If I do say so myself)
